Test fails when using the format with delimiters omitted

The following test works:

```bash
$ shelltest --version
shelltest 1.10
```
```
<
$ echo \#t
>
#t
>2
>= 0
```

but the version with delimiters omitted does not work
```
$ echo \#t
>
#t
```
