@timsaucer I'm happy to volunteer as release manager since I need the release for Ballista. I'm also happy for you (or someone else) to do this. Let me know if you have a preference.

Thanks @andygrove ! I have a very strong preference that we get upstream 55.1.0 out because I think we need apache/datafusion#24694 back port and released before we can release the query planner work that is nearly ready to go for datafusion-python.

I think the other open issues on the 55.1.0 release can probably be pushed off to 56.0.0. As long as people agree with that we can probably kick off the release process for 55.1.0 upstream tomorrow. Then I've got my 3 stacked PRs for the query planner approved. I did some more work on #1677 today but I think it's very close to being ready to merge (and already approved by two people).
